Also known as a two–cornered hat, the bicorne is the style particularly associated with Napoleon Bonaparte.
In English, a bicorne is the type worn with the corners on either side; if worn front–to–back, it's known as a cocked hat. The 'cock' is the front brim; it's shorter than the rear brim, which is known as the fan.
In French, both styles are known as bicornes.
